Grade 10 → Grade 12 Progression

Three focused years taking learners from pathway entry to national examination readiness and university placement.

Grade 10 · Age 16–17

Entering Senior Secondary — Pathway Establishment

The first year of Senior Secondary is about establishing a strong foundation in all 7 subjects. Learners confirm their pathway choice (based on KJSEA results from Grade 9), meet their specialist teachers, and build the habits of independent study and research essential for the next three years.

Pathway Confirmation Core Maths Specialisation SBA Portfolios Begin CSL Project 1
Grade 11 · Age 17–18

Subject Mastery — Research & Application

The most intensive academic year. Learners complete major research projects, conduct practicals, sit their first KNEC mock assessments, and begin university/college application planning. STEM learners tackle advanced calculus, organic chemistry and coding projects. Social Sciences learners complete extended essays and fieldwork.

Extended Research Projects First KNEC Mocks University Preparation
Grade 12 · Age 18–19

National Examinations — University & Career Readiness

The final year is dedicated to examination preparation, SBA portfolio completion, and sitting the KNEC national examinations. Grade 12 results determine placement into universities, technical colleges, and professional training programmes across Kenya and internationally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Placement into Grade 10 Senior Secondary pathways is based on the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) results from Grade 9. Strong performance in sciences and mathematics typically qualifies a learner for STEM; strong performance in languages, humanities and social studies for Social Sciences; and talent/performance assessments for Arts & Sports Science. Learners also have a say in their preferred pathway.
Pathway changes are possible at the end of Grade 10 but become progressively harder as the curriculum deepens in Grades 11 and 12. Schools and the Ministry of Education advise finalising pathway selection at entry into Grade 10. Our tutors can help identify the right pathway from the start and provide bridging support if a change is needed.
Core Mathematics is designed for STEM pathway learners and covers advanced topics including calculus, vectors, matrices, and complex statistics — essential for engineering, medicine, and science university courses. Essential Mathematics is for Social Sciences and Arts learners — it focuses on applied, real-world mathematics including business maths, financial literacy, statistics, and practical problem-solving.
CSL is a compulsory CBC subject for all Grade 10–12 learners. It requires students to undertake structured community service projects in areas like environmental conservation, health education, or youth empowerment. Learners document their projects in a portfolio which is assessed as part of the SBA component. Our tutors help learners plan and document their CSL projects effectively.
The Kenya National Examinations Council conducts the final Grade 12 examinations, which contribute 70% of the overall Grade 12 score. The remaining 30% comes from School-Based Assessments (SBAs) accumulated over Grades 10–12. Results from these examinations determine university and college placement through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
Yes. We have specialist tutors across all three pathways — STEM (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Studies, Agriculture, Building Technology, etc.), Social Sciences (History, Geography, Business Studies, Languages, Literature, Religious Education), and Arts & Sports Science (Theatre & Film, Fine Arts, Music, Sports Science). We also cover all four compulsory core subjects for every learner.
